Astromomy and Space Study Centre
This Centre is SUBODHIs window on the world of Science and Technology which have a decisive impact on the thinking, attitudes and life-styles of people of today. Astronomy and Space can be considered symbolic of the modern scientific enterprise. The Centre was officially declared open by Revd Dr.George Coyne sj, Director of the Vatican Astronomical Observatory in August 1988. In his welcome address Fr.Mervyn said, the Centre will endeavour to introduce our youth not only to the wonders of the Universe but also through them to the mystery of man who wonders at the Universe. That sums up succinctly the general goal of the Centre.
Now ASSC is the leading Astronomy education Centre in the country, targeting students from grade eight, up to University undergraduates, conducting regular programmes mostly in the sinhala language. To provide facilities and opportunities for children, students and young peotie to be enlightened about, and grow into, the fullness of life, namely, to develop holisticall/in body, mind, heart and spirit on the basis of their morallspiritual worldview. To give a deeper insight into themselves to help discover their strengths, weak nesses, abilities & talents for a truly enlightened life.
