VIRAC
Ventspils Internation Radio Astronomy Center (VIRAC) has been founded on 22th July 1994 as a department of Latvian Academy of Sciences, when performing the instruction Nr. 392-r of 19th July 1994 of the cabinet of the Republic of Latvia About Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center the state commission was established and real estate (object Star) from body Nr. 51429 of the Soviet Army was taken over. After two years with the instruction Nr. 131 of the cabinet of the Republic of Latvia of 24th April 1996 VIRAC has been reorganized as a state scientific profitless organization - limited liability company.
Its core capital was formed from two fully turnable parabolic radio telescope antennas with diameters of primary mirrors accordingly 32 and 16 meters as well as buildings, constructions and communications needed to ensure the work of these antennas. On 26th October 2004 with the instruction Nr. 820 the cabinet of the Republic of Latvia decides to add under the Ministry of Education and Science existent limited liability company VIRAC to the Ventspils University College. This decision has been performed in 16th December 2004, including VIRAC in Ventspils Univeristy College as a scientific institution. From July 20th till July 22nd ministers responsible for space sector from European Union member states and Switzerland and Norwaytook part in a meeting in European Space Center in French Guiana.
